Planting the seed of faith and providing opportunities for students to encounter God is a powerful way to inspire spiritual growth. These encounters can serve as a foundation to develop their relationship with God as they move forward in life.

new theology standards

Over the past two years, a dedicated committee of teachers, administrators, chaplains, priests, campus ministers, and deacons from across the diocese collaborated to develop these standards for our Catholic schools.
In addition, teams of teachers representing each K–8 grade level identified priority standards to inform progress reporting and to provide a guiding structure that supports meaningful access and equitable learning opportunities for all students.
These K–12 Theology Standards are intended to serve as one component of a broader framework for Catholic school formation that supports the development of the whole child. Additional elements include VIRTUS – Empowering God’s Children lessons, Theology of the Body curriculum, the Cardinal Newman Catholic Curriculum Standards, and a prayer progression guideline.

Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education (ACRE)
The ACRE test is administered in the Spring to all students in grades 5, 8,11 in the Diocese of Sioux City.
The test is published by the NCEA (National Catholic Educational Association), and it is an assessment designed to strengthen catechetical/education programs. Based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the most recent catechetical documents, the purpose of the ACRE is to evaluate the effectiveness of a religious instruction.
Our students scored above the national average on all domains in faith knowledge! We are very proud of our students’ achievements!
